Geely Atlas cars, produced from 2018 to 2022, represent early Chinese crossovers that, in terms of specifications, appearance, and quality, are comparable to vehicles from Korea and Western countries. Their key advantage is decent performance at a more accessible price point. Sergei Zinoviev, an expert from the publication ‘Za Rulem,’ shared insights on the reliability of these cars, considering both their strengths and weaknesses.
The atmospheric engines of these models, with capacities of 2.0 and 2.4 liters, have proven to be fairly trouble-free power units. However, the turbocharged 1.8-liter engine is more demanding when it comes to the quality of fuel used and may require closer monitoring of the fuel pump’s operation.
Some Geely Atlas vehicles from those years experienced jerking in the operation of the automatic transmission, leading to gearbox replacements under warranty in some cases. According to expert Zinoviev, the all-wheel-drive system, which uses a BorgWarner clutch, usually does not pose serious issues. Nonetheless, some units exhibited problems with sealing the seals of the angle reducer, leading to moisture ingress and subsequent corrosion of internal components.
Some cars underwent warranty replacements of steering racks and brake discs. Aging Geely Atlas vehicles may also face typical issues such as periodic parking brake sticking and unstable operation of the keyless entry system under high humidity.
