Israel Announces Plan To Open Rafah Crossing. What It Means For Gazans

Israel has announced the reopening of the Rafah crossing, Gaza’s primary entry point, to allow Palestinians requiring medical treatment to depart the region. The move comes amidst a humanitarian crisis and a delicate ceasefire situation. The decision was made public on Wednesday, with Israel revealing plans to open the Rafah crossing in the coming days specifically for Palestinians in need of medical assistance. According to COGAT, the Israeli military body overseeing humanitarian issues, Palestinians will be permitted to leave Gaza through the Rafah crossing in collaboration with Egypt, following Israeli security clearance and with European Union supervision, mirroring a process implemented in January.
