The Pretoria Agreement, signed by the Ethiopian government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) three years ago, aimed to silence the guns in the Tigray Region after a brutal war. However, the failure to fully implement the agreement and lack of justice and accountability could lead to reigniting the conflict. The split within Tigray’s leadership adds to the risks, with factions supporting different sides. To prevent further deterioration, regional and international actors must engage, impose sanctions on spoilers, and support political dialogue. Humanitarian assistance needs immediate scaling up to aid the displaced population.
