The severe weather also affected southern Thailand, resulting in at least 1,400 deaths across these countries. Official data as of 21:00 Bangkok time (14:00 GMT) confirmed at least 770 deaths in Indonesia’s Sumatra, 479 in Sri Lanka, and 185 in southern Thai provinces, with a total of around nine million people affected.
