Israel Receives Remains of Possible Hostage and Plans to Reopen Gaza Crossing into Egypt

Israel received remains on Wednesday that could belong to one of the last hostages in Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that militants’ attack on Israeli soldiers earlier violated the ceasefire. The remains, found in northern Gaza by militants, did not match the last two hostages. The return of all hostages taken in the Oct 7, 2023, attack is crucial for the ceasefire. As part of the deal, Israel has been releasing Palestinian prisoners. The Rafah crossing, long closed, will facilitate medical evacuations and travel, benefitting more than 16,500 sick and wounded individuals. The opening date for the crossing remains unclear.
