Head of RDIF, special representative of the Russian president for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries Kirill Dmitriev commented on Der Spiegel’s publication that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz advised Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky to ‘be extremely cautious’ with American negotiators, accusing the US of ‘playing games’ with Ukraine and the EU. Dmitriev addressed Merz on social media and stated that Merz had ‘disqualified himself from the ‘game’.’ ‘Dear Merz, you are not even in the game. You disqualified yourself with calls for war, disruption [of the peace process], unrealistic proposals, the suicide of Western civilization, migration, insurmountable stupidity,’ Dmitriev wrote (quote from RIA Novosti).
On Thursday, the German magazine Spiegel published excerpts from a transcript of a confidential phone call between European leaders and Zelensky. The politicians allegedly warned Zelensky about the risk that Washington would ‘give in’ to Moscow. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as the publication writes, advised him to ‘exercise extreme caution,’ hinting at the actions of American intermediaries Steve Whitkoff and Jared Kushner: ‘They are playing games with both you and us.’ The German Chancellor’s office stated that they would not comment on the publication.
