India Expands Sources of Fertilisers to Germany, Egypt, US Amid China’s Export Slowdown

Amid reports of China withholding exports of speciality fertilisers to India over the past few months, domestic companies have turned to alternative suppliers in Belgium, Egypt, Germany, Morocco, and the United States to bridge the supply gap, as stated by the government in Parliament. Minister of State for Fertilisers Anupriya Patel mentioned that speciality fertilisers are not subsidized under the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) scheme and can be imported based on market dynamics. Indian research institutions like the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) are developing indigenous alternatives, such as nano-fertilisers and micronutrient-enriched bio-fertilisers, to reduce import dependence and enhance agricultural productivity. These efforts are part of a push towards self-reliance in nutrient management.
