Flood-damaged money can be exchanged at Bank Indonesia. You can wrap the damaged bills in plastic and include a letter of endorsement from your local authorities for verification. ‘For example, if the money is covered in mud from the flood and you can’t identify the denomination, just wrap it in plastic, treat it as if it were burnt money,’ explained Reza, an educator from Bangga Cinta Rupiah Bank Indonesia in North Sumatra, on Friday, December 5, 2025.
Moreover, Reza mentioned that you can also include a letter of endorsement from your local authorities. ‘You can take it to Bank Indonesia along with a letter from the village head or the police,’ he said.
After that, Reza stated that Bank Indonesia would take the damaged money to a laboratory at their headquarters. ‘The laboratory in Medan is not equipped for verification, so we will send it to Jakarta,’ Reza explained.
Regarding the process, Reza mentioned that it would take approximately 1-3 months. Once the verification is completed, the replacement money will be transferred to the account you provided.
