Kelvin Barros da Silva, 21, the confessed murderer of military officer Maria de Lourdes Freire, 25, will be expelled from the Army, the military force announced. The young woman was killed with a stab in the neck and her body was burned in the vicinity of the 1st Regiment of Guards Cavalry (1st RGC) last Friday (12/5).
In an official statement, the Army expressed its position regarding the femicide and confirmed the opening of a Military Police Investigation (IPM) to clarify the circumstances of the crime.
Arrest
Kelvin was arrested by the teams of the 2nd Police Station (Asa Norte) and, at the police station, confessed to the femicide. He provided details of the murder and claimed that the motivation was related to a possible extramarital relationship, a version contested by the family.
‘The investigations began promptly, with the forensic work on the scene by the Army Police, Civil Police, and Fire Department of the Federal District, as well as other investigations that led to the arrest of the suspect of committing the said victim’s murder,’ wrote the Army.
Kelvin is detained at the Brasília Army Police Battalion, where he remains in custody, facing criminal proceedings. He is expected to be discharged from the force and held accountable for the act committed, as guaranteed by the military force.
‘The Brazilian Army provides full support to the family and deeply regrets the loss of Corporal Maria de Lourdes Freire Matos and reiterates its position of not condoning criminal acts and punishing those responsible with rigor.’
