A tragic incident unfolded in a nightclub in Goa, where a fire broke out late on Saturday night, resulting in the deaths of at least 23 people. The police estimate that the fire may have been caused by a cylinder explosion.
The majority of the deceased were reportedly club employees, including some women. The club, located in North Goa’s popular Arpora area, had several tourists among those who lost their lives.
According to news agency PTI, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that most of the deceased were kitchen staff of the nightclub. Three women were also among the victims. Sawant took to social media platform Twitter to express his grief over the incident, saying, ‘Today is a very sorrowful day for Goa. 23 lives have been lost in a major incident of a fire in Arpora.’
The Chief Minister also vowed to investigate the incident thoroughly to determine the actual cause of the fire. He further mentioned, ‘Action will be taken under the law against those responsible. No negligence will be tolerated.’
