Video: Heavy rain causes flash floods and floods in cities of MG

A heavy rainstorm hit the Zona da Mata region in Minas Gerais this Sunday (7/12) and caused damage in several cities in the area. The most affected municipalities were Luísburgo (MG), Reduto (MG), and Santa Margarida (MG), where residents reported flash floods, floods, and landslides. In Luísburgo, videos show a VW Gol stuck while trying to climb a slope on a dirt road. In another recording, the river water overflows strongly and passes dangerously close to a residence in the rural area. There are also records of streets flooded within the city. In the rural area of Reduto, residents recorded videos of flooded streets. Meanwhile, in Santa Margarida, a flash flood flowed intensely over a slope and invaded part of a house. According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), the forecast for this Monday (8/12) in the Zona da Mata region is partly cloudy with a chance of rain. In the Northwest, North, Central Mineira, Jequitinhonha, Mucuri, and Triângulo/Alto Paranaíba regions, the weather should be partly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures in Minas Gerais are expected to vary on Monday (8/12) between a minimum of 14°C and a maximum of 34°C. The report contacted the city halls of the mentioned cities to find out if emergency measures are being implemented and is awaiting feedback.
