2,000-Year-Old Pleasure Boat Wreck Discovered off Egypt’s Coast

Underwater archaeologists announced on Monday the fascinating discovery of a 2,000-year-old ancient Egyptian pleasure boat wreck off the coast of Alexandria. The European Institute for Underwater Archaeology (IEASM) revealed that divers located the vessel’s hull, measuring over 115 feet in length and 23 feet wide, submerged in the port of the island of Antirhodos. The hull displayed Greek graffiti potentially dating back to the first century AD, indicating a possible origin in Alexandria. The boat is believed to have featured a lavishly decorated cabin and was likely powered by oars.
