Pakistan and Indonesia Strengthen Cooperation with Signing of Multiple MoUs

Pakistan and Indonesia signed seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements on Tuesday, with the aim of enhancing bilateral cooperation in a wide range of sectors. The ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, marked a significant step in strengthening ties between the two nations. The MoUs cover areas such as higher education collaboration, support for small and medium enterprises, narcotics control, Halal trade, and cooperation in the health sector.

During a joint press stakeout, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized both countries’ commitment to achieving their shared goals of enhanced collaboration. With current bilateral trade valued at $4.5 billion, predominantly in Indonesia’s favor, discussions centered on strategies to boost Pakistani exports, particularly in agriculture and IT services.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Sharif announced Pakistan’s decision to send medical professionals, including doctors and dentists, to Indonesia to assist in addressing the country’s healthcare needs. Highlighting the historic ties between the two nations, Mr. Sharif noted their 75 years of diplomatic relations and the significance of President Subianto’s visit coinciding with this milestone anniversary.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Sharif expressed gratitude for Indonesia’s unwavering support during the 1965 war, a gesture that is deeply appreciated by the Pakistani people. He expressed confidence that President Subianto’s visit would further elevate the fraternal relations between Pakistan and Indonesia to new heights, emphasizing both countries’ joint commitment to fostering peace and progress within the region and beyond.
