A devastating fire broke out on the first floor of an office building in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, leading to the deaths of 22 individuals. The incident occurred around midday on Tuesday, prompting the deployment of over 100 firefighters to control the flames. The cause of the fire is currently under scrutiny by authorities.
The fire ravaged a seven-story office block in central Jakarta, claiming multiple lives, including that of a pregnant woman. Thick black smoke engulfed the building, causing panic among residents and workers nearby. The Jakarta Fire Department mobilized around 100 firefighters and 29 fire trucks to combat the blaze.
Rescuers discovered 22 victims within the building, consisting of seven men and fifteen women, who were subsequently transported to the police hospital for identification. Efforts are ongoing to locate any remaining individuals who might be trapped inside. According to Susatyo Purnomo Condro, head of Central Jakarta police, the fire originated on the first floor before spreading to higher levels.
Some employees were present in the building during the outbreak, while others had exited the premises. The investigation into the fire’s cause is ongoing, with authorities focusing on victim evacuation and cooling operations at present. Media footage displayed firefighters working to evacuate individuals and rescue workers escaping using portable ladders from the higher floors of the building.
The office building housed Terra Drone Indonesia, a subsidiary of Terra Drone Corporation, specializing in drone services for various sectors. Terra Drone Co expressed regret over the incident and its impact on the local community and clients. The company is currently assessing the effects of the fire on its operations.
