The DDEF (Fraud Police Station) launched Operation False Route on Wednesday (13) to dismantle a sophisticated criminal network responsible for scamming the Uber platform. Five search and seizure warrants were issued against the scheme members, causing significant losses to the technology company. According to the police, the group exploited a vulnerability in Uber’s PIX payment system. By using fake accounts created by artificial intelligence for both drivers and users, criminals simulated rides with multiple stops, inflating the final trip cost. At the end of the journey, Uber paid the full amount to the driver, including the extra stops. However, the additional payment was not made by the fake user, who abandoned the account, leaving the debt to the platform. Investigations continue to identify all involved and recover the misappropriated funds, as well as strengthen security mechanisms against digital fraud. (Report in progress)
