Iran reaffirms its regional role despite international pressures

Iran will ‘support the Lebanese people regardless of the circumstances. We will strive to defend Lebanon’s interests.’ This was the message conveyed by Ali Larijani, secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, upon his arrival in Beirut. He arrived just days after the Lebanese government announced its plan to disarm Hezbollah, a militia financed by Tehran.
