Israeli airstrikes on Tehran kill inmates in apparent war crime, Human Rights Watch finds

In June, Israeli airstrikes on Tehran’s Evin prison resulted in the deaths of numerous detainees, visitors, and staff, prompting Human Rights Watch (HRW) to denounce the incident as an “apparent war crime”. According to HRW, the attack targeted the prison, causing widespread casualties. The aftermath of the airstrike saw Iranian authorities subject survivors to abuse, enforced disappearance, and other violations of human rights. The tragic incident killed at least 80 people and marked a dark chapter in the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran. The international community has expressed outrage and condemnation over the apparent war crime committed at Evin prison.
