President of the United States, Donald Trump, greeted Russian President Vladimir Putin at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson on August 15, 2025, in Anchorage, Alaska. According to the American leader, the war in Ukraine will end with territory swaps and security guarantees. Trump stated that he and Putin broadly agreed on land exchanges. The U.S. President, Donald Trump, said he agreed with the Russian leader that the war in Ukraine will conclude with territory swaps and some form of U.S. security guarantee.
In an interview with Fox News, the American leader discussed territorial concessions that would give Russia lands it did not previously have and potential security guarantees from the U.S. for Ukraine. Trump mentioned this as a point of agreement with Putin. ‘Well, I think those are points that we negotiated and broadly agreed on,’ he said. ‘In fact, I think we agreed on many things. I can say the meeting was warm.’ He called Putin a ‘strong guy’ and ‘tough cookie,’ but stated the meeting was positive. ‘I think we are very close to the end. And, you know, Ukraine has to agree on this,’ he added. Finally, the American leader advised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky: ‘We need to make a deal.’
Alaska Summit The bilateral summit between the U.S. President, Donald Trump, and Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, in Alaska ended without a concrete agreement. The American leader emphasized that progress was made during the meeting and he will call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and speak with NATO, the Western military alliance. However, Trump pointed out that no agreement was reached. On the other hand, the Russian leader stated that the main causes of the war must be eliminated for the conflict in Ukraine to end. ‘The situation in Ukraine relates to fundamental threats to our security,’ Putin said. He noted that while Russia is interested in ending the situation in Ukraine, Moscow’s concerns must be taken into account.
