Among more than 2,000 flowers, two outfit changes, Zeca Pagodinho performance, and star-studded guests, Bruna Marquezine’s party, held on Friday night (15), at Ilha Fiscal, featured a five-tier cake full of ruffles, adorned with red cherries, in Victorian style. Contrary to the famous naked cake, the naked cake with visible layers and filling that was so successful in recent decades, the Victorian aesthetic is reigning at parties. Well covered, marked by elaborate ornaments and a soft palette, the vintage version that refers to the romantic and elegant style of Queen Victoria era (1837-1901), in England, is among the most requested by bakers nowadays. In modern interpretations, it resurfaces out of the ordinary, with bold colors, accessories, and shapes. Such as the huge rectangular cake that popped up on social media recently at actress Marina Ruy Barbosa’s birthday – who had already chosen a ruffled cake decorated with cherries at her 2024 celebration. ‘Kind of Sofia Coppola, who puts All Star sneakers on Marie Antoinette,’ mentions chef Tunica Bocayuva, from the Tunica Live buffet, referring to the American filmmaker’s movie: ‘With reliefs and ruffles, there is room for great imagination, for all ages and types of events. I’ve created versions with carrot-shaped ornaments for an Easter baptism, and tiny ones for a plated dinner. It’s very trendy.’ For the annual party decoration workshop she promotes, expert Ana Carolina Arrigoni chose a heart-shaped Victorian cake, with glittery cherries on top. The dessert was signed by confectioner Roberta Wightman, from Betuska Ateliê, also a witness of the growth of this aesthetic. ‘Instead of fondant, it’s usually made with buttercream, which has a creamy texture, and is more flavorful,’ another feature of the Victorian cake, comments Roberta. Betuska Ateliê combines various reliefs on the icing For a wedding at Copacabana Palace, Casal Garcia replicated a 1950s cake, at the bride’s request, but with a modern touch: golden cherries. Confectioner Camila Colla, from Sweet Soft, decorated with graceful Sicilian lemons in a birthday order. ‘I don’t see it as just a trend, it’s here to stay. Vintage brings warmth, carries memories, sparks affection,’ she says.
