Fabio Equals Record for Most Football Matches Played

Goalkeeper Fábio, from Fluminense, has equalled the record for the athlete with the most matches played in the history of world football, matching Peter Shilton, the former English goalkeeper, with a total of 1,390 games. This milestone was achieved in today’s match against Fortaleza at Maracanã stadium, during the Brazilian Championship. Fábio’s numbers were confirmed by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS). He played 976 games for Cruzeiro, 234 for Fluminense, 150 for Vasco, and 30 for União Bandeirante, a club which has since ceased its activities.
