Luis Fernando Verissimo was taken to a hospital, where a health issue was diagnosed. At that time, the author was still recovering from a jaw surgery in November 2020, just a few months prior. The stroke affected a cognitive part of his brain, making it difficult to organize his thoughts, although he understood what was happening around him. Since then, he has been undergoing a slow and gradual recovery and has experienced some unexpected events – such as his increased ease in communicating in English, a language he became fluent in due to his childhood in the USA. Son of writer Erico Verissimo, he followed his father’s footsteps in literature, becoming known for his texts in the form of chronicles, stories, and poems. In the 1980s, along with his most famous character, the Analyst of Bage, he also published works like ‘Sex in the Head,’ ‘The Flying Table,’ ‘The Devil’s Garden,’ and ‘Orgies.’ In the 1990s, works such as ‘The Little Saint,’ ‘The Eternal Deprivation of the Absolute Defender,’ ‘Gluttony – The Club of Angels,’ and ‘Brazilian Stories of Summer.’ In the 2000s, he authored ‘The Twelfth Night,’ ‘Banquet With the Gods,’ ‘Comedies to Read in School,’ and ‘The Spies,’ as well as more recent works like ‘Impossible Dialogues’ and ‘Beethoven’s Last Quartets and Other Tales.’
