The Independiente supporters were evacuated and relocated to other areas to avoid conflicts with the University fans. However, a group of Independiente fans mercilessly attacked the few blue fans who did not obey orders and remained inside the stadium. What was meant to be a suspension turned into a cancellation. Almost an hour after the interruption, CONMEBOL confirmed that the remainder of the match will not be played on Wednesday. The South American football governing body will now have to decide who gets the spot in the next round. The legal proceedings will be similar to the Colo-Colo x Fortaleza match, which was also canceled due to disturbances in the stands. The difference is that, in that case, the teams were playing in the group stage, with the three points awarded to Fortaleza. This time, however, it was an elimination match, meaning that a team will need to advance to the quarterfinals of the Copa Sul-Americana. Therefore, the upcoming days are expected to be filled with behind-the-scenes negotiations.
