Israel Signals Reduction of Troops in Lebanon Would Be Linked to Hezbollah Disarmament

JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israel indicated on Monday that it could decrease its military presence in southern Lebanon if the Lebanese armed forces took steps to disarm Hezbollah, a Shi’ite militant group backed by Iran. The statement from the Israeli prime minister’s office followed a meeting between Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. envoy Tom Barrack, who has been actively involved in a plan to disarm Hezbollah and remove Israeli troops from Lebanon.
