Police arrests suspect for the death of teachers and young woman in Ilhéus (BA)

A man suspected of involvement in the murder of two teachers and a young woman in Ilhéus, Bahia, was arrested on Monday morning (25). The information was confirmed by the Civil Police of Bahia. The individual is also suspected of crimes related to drug trafficking. The investigation into the triple homicide is being conducted by the Homicide Unit of Ilhéus, and a task force has been created to clarify the case. Maria Helena do Nascimento Bastos, 41, Mariana Bastos da Silva, 20, and Alexsandra Oliveira Suzart, 45, were found dead in a bush in the Jardim Atlântico neighborhood, with wounds caused by a sharp weapon. Maria and Alexsandra were friends and teachers in the municipal education system in Ilhéus, while Mariana was the daughter of Maria Helena. The Civil Police state that relatives and acquaintances of the victims have already been interviewed, and footage from 15 surveillance cameras in the area is being analyzed. No eyewitness has been identified so far. Furthermore, the location where the bodies were found is considered a blind spot for cameras, which complicates the tracking of suspects. In recent days, four individuals have been interrogated and taken to the Department of Legal Medicine (DPT), where they underwent forensic examinations for criminal identification, genetic analysis, fingerprint matching, and injury exams. The reports have not yet been completed and will be crucial for advancing the investigations.
