The TV 3.0 era is set to kick off during the 2026 World Cup. The migration will be ‘staggered,’ according to the government, starting in major cities, with the first broadcasts scheduled for the men’s soccer World Cup, which begins on June 11 in Mexico. The entire process is expected to last up to 15 years. The transition period will be lengthy due to the size of the national territory and the differences in signal quality and technology access across regions. This coexistence period between the current and new systems is estimated to take 10 to 15 years, as evaluated by the ministry.
The signal is free, but converters may be required. If you do not want to purchase a new television set that is already adapted to this technology, converters are available. Currently, they are priced around R$ 400, but the government states that they are ‘closely monitoring the development of these devices’ to ‘ensure democratic and affordable access to the new technology.’ It will be a free, open TV with superior quality compared to digital TV and increased interactivity with the viewer. If the TV is connected to the internet, additional services will be available, such as e-commerce, facilitating interaction between the TV, the user, and the viewer. This new market positions Brazil at the forefront of the industry. The expectation is that this technology will be available to the public in 2026, the year of the World Cup.

What changes
Better image and sound quality. The image quality upgrades from FullHD to 4K and even 8K, with internet connectivity, and the number of color options increases from 16 million to 1 billion.
