At Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, they believe in a football that excites, unites, and inspires, to be experienced with passion and respect, both on and off the field. That’s why they reaffirm their commitment to sportsmanship, civility in the stands, and the right of all fans – whether from the home or visiting team – to enjoy the stadium as a space for entertainment and socializing.
At Maracanã, Flamengo welcomes fans from all clubs with respect. The mixed zones, where home and visiting supporters watch matches together, are proof that it is possible to coexist peacefully, with different shirts but the same love for football. Flamengo does this out of conviction, not obligation, because they believe football should be celebrated.
Unfortunately, what was seen at Castelão, during the match between Fortaleza and Flamengo, goes against this spirit. The pricing policy for the away section was incompatible with the principle of equality: while tickets for Fortaleza fans cost R$ 60 (full) and R$ 30 (half) at Maracanã, Flamengo supporters paid an average of R$ 231.95 at Castelão – a price that led to the away fans, representing only 24% of the audience, accounting for over 70% of the total revenue of R$ 2.7 million.
Moreover, during the game, an unfortunate incident showed how much progress still needs to be made. A Fortaleza fan harassed and embarrassed two individuals who were simply wearing black shirts – without any demonstrations or provocations – accusing them of being Flamengo supporters. Both were eventually removed from the section, in complete disrespect to the spirit of sportsmanship.
It is necessary to promote a fairer, more welcoming, and civilized football. Flamengo does not accept setbacks and will continue to advocate for a Better Football, both on and off the field.
