The United Nations Office of Human Rights claims to have observed ‘a significant increase in the number of executions during the first half of 2025’ in Iran. ‘Iranian authorities executed at least 841 people since the beginning.’ The lack of transparency in the Islamic Republic has raised concerns about the actual number of executions. The situation is worrying due to the secrecy surrounding such actions. ‘Given the lack of transparency,’ says the UN Office, ‘the situation could be much worse than reported.’
