BRICS is not an alternative

Amid tensions generated by Trump’s tariff policy, the idea of a new approach to the BRICS group has resurfaced among a group of government officials as an alternative to sell our exports and even have their support in negotiations with the United States. Despite the appeal of potentially diversifying trade partners and strengthening diplomatic ties, it is crucial to recognize that the BRICS countries—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—may not be a viable alternative in the current global economy. Brazil, for instance, faces economic challenges that could limit its potential to boost trade with other BRICS members.
