Spain is one of the main tourist destinations for young British people. Places like Benidorm or Palma are filled with UK youth throughout the year with a simple plan: sun and alcohol. But luckily or unluckily for Spain, it is facing competition. According to the Daily Mail, the recent World Travel Market Global Travel Report has identified a trend among young British people to abandon Spain and head to destinations in Asia. Gary Bowerman, a travel and consumer trends analyst based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, stated to the Daily Mail that Bali (Indonesia), Kyoto (Japan), and Phuket (Thailand) are becoming the preferred destinations for the British. Bowerman attributes this shift in part to the increased demand post-pandemic, as well as the decreasing flight costs to Asian countries. Additionally, in many places, urban development has led to areas like Kuta in Bali being dominated by commercial tourist attractions rather than preserving their traditional charm.
