Chinese President Xi Jinping addressed the UN Climate Change Summit via video on Wednesday, September 24, revealing China’s climate goals for 2035. Xi stated that the net greenhouse gas emissions would decrease by 7% to 10% below peak levels. Additionally, the proportion of non-fossil energy consumption is set to exceed 30% of total energy consumption, and the total installed capacity of wind and solar power will increase sixfold compared to 2020.
Xi Jinping stated, ‘The green and low-carbon transformation is the trend of the times. Despite some countries going against the tide, the international community should focus on the right direction… promoting the formulation and implementation of nationally determined contributions to inject more positive energy into global climate governance cooperation.’
