To protect himself from a possible surgical strike or a special forces incursion, Maduro has been frequently changing his sleeping location and cell phone. Precautions have intensified since September, when the US began assembling warships in the Caribbean and targeting drug-smuggling boats. Maduro has expanded the role of Cuban bodyguards in his personal security detail and deployed more Cuban counter-intelligence officers to the Venezuelan Armed Forces.
