Siti Nurbaya Siregar and her family had to escape to the roof as the water rose. They were rescued by a neighbor on a small boat, facing near capsizing. Half of the village’s homes were destroyed. The death toll now exceeds 1,300, with 1.2 million displaced. South-East Asia still grapples with the aftermath of cyclones and storms, causing havoc in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
