Catastrophic flooding has swept across southeast Asia, resulting in the loss of at least 600 lives and displacing tens of thousands as villages were engulfed in water. The relentless monsoon rain, worsened by tropical storms, caused some of the region’s most severe flooding in years, affecting millions in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. The devastation began in Sumatra, Indonesia, with over 300 confirmed casualties and hundreds still missing. Houses were swept away, leaving residents stranded and awaiting rescue on rooftops.
