The bursting of firecrackers on Diwali night led to a sharp rise in pollution levels, impacting the air quality in the region. The pollution levels increased significantly post the Diwali celebrations, reaching an average of 154 by 6 am in Chennai. The haze and smoke from the festivities added to the pollution levels, posing health risks to the residents.
