Egypt is inaugurating on Saturday the Grand Egyptian Museum, a project two decades in the making, with the goal of revitalizing the country’s tourist industry. Situated near Cairo on the Giza Plateau, alongside the pyramids and the Sphinx, the museum will be the world’s largest dedicated to a single civilization. Showcasing more than 50,000 artifacts depicting life in ancient Egypt, the grand opening ceremony is set to be attended by world leaders, monarchs, and heads of state, as the Egyptian presidency praises it as a significant event in human culture and civilization.
