European airports targeted by cyberattack; see what is known

European airports were targeted by a cyberattack on Saturday (20). Among the airports affected is Heathrow in London, England, the busiest on the continent. The hacker action caused flight delays and cancellations. According to CNN, the target was a server that specifically handles the check-in and boarding system. Collins Aerospace, which provides this system to various airlines globally, is experiencing a technical issue causing delays for travelers seeking to board. This information was confirmed by Heathrow Airport. Brussels airport in Belgium and Berlin airport in Germany were also hit by the attack. RTX, a company related to Collins Aerospace, stated that they are aware of a ‘disruption related to something cybernetic’ in their software at some airports – which were not disclosed. ‘The impact is limited to electronic check-in and baggage drop-off counters and can be neutralized with manual check-in operation,’ RTX said in a statement to CNN.
