Indonesian authorities recently conducted the evacuation of over 900 individuals and are currently ensuring the safe return of 170 climbers who were stranded following the eruption of Semeru volcano, one of the tallest mountains in the country. The alert level remains at its highest after Semeru, located on Java island, erupted 10 times on Wednesday. Massive plumes of ash were emitted, along with lava and rocks reaching up to 13 km down the slopes, according to officials. The climbers were trapped at a lakeside camping area near the volcano’s base, approximately 6.4 km from the crater, but efforts are underway to transport them to safety, as stated by Septi Wardhani, an official at Semeru national park.
