His social media presence often includes posts discussing the struggles of Gaza and providing updates on events happening in his home country of Syria. Apart from his online activism, al-Shamie has worked as a trauma surgeon in war zones, including South Sudan, as indicated by his posts. In a video shared in 2016, he can be seen discussing his experiences and involvement in such areas.
