Oscar, Golden Globe, Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, awards for best direction and actor at Cannes and best screenplay at Venice… The atmosphere was one of pride and celebration in Brazilian cinema last year. And taking advantage of the celebrations of its centenary, GLOBO decided to combine the festivities and invite over 100 Brazilian filmmakers for a mission: to choose the best national films of the 21st century. The special environment of GLOBO brings the complete list of the 50 best Brazilian films of the period, with information about each work and testimonials from voters, as well as the possibility for the reader to create their own ranking. From acclaimed directors like Fernando Meirelles, Anna Muylaert, Bruno Barreto, Heitor Dhalia, Karim Aïnouz, Vicente Amorim, Jorge Furtado, and Petra Costa, to actors with directing work like Antonio Pitanga, Lázaro Ramos, Selton Mello, Leandra Leal, and Caio Blat. From veterans like Daniela Thomas, Helena Solberg, Ivan Cardoso, Joel Zito Araújo, Walter Carvalho, and Zelito Vianna to younger ones like Gabriel Martins, Glenda Nicácio, Maria Clara Escobar, Matheus Souza, and Yasmin Thayná. The filmmakers submitted their lists of the ten favorite national feature films released in the century, without any order of preference. With the votes concluded, information computed and crossed, a final selection was made.
