Floods in Indonesia: over 880 dead and 520 missing

The death toll and number of missing persons continue to rise due to the torrential rains that have been hitting Indonesia, but also Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia. In Indonesia, the toll from the severe floods and landslides that have hit the island of Sumatra has risen to at least 883 deaths, with 520 people still missing. This was reported by the National Agency for Disaster Management, which also reports about 4,200 injured. Aceh, the hardest-hit province, with 345 victims. The data concerns the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, hit by days of heavy rains. Aceh is the most devastated area, with 345 victims and 174 missing persons. The toll remains provisional and could increase because the work of rescuers is hindered by damaged bridges and blocked roads.
