Food shortage plagues Indonesia after floods that left over 900 dead

The devastating floods and landslides have left over 900 dead on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia, announced the country’s disaster management agency on Saturday (6), with concerns over rising victim numbers due to food shortages. The catastrophic convergence of two tropical cyclones and the monsoon season has claimed about 1,790 lives in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. This includes 908 fatalities in the tourist hotspot of Sumatra in western Indonesia, with over 400 individuals still missing. Concerns over food shortages loom large in areas like Aceh, where access remains limited in remote regions.
