Honda Shifts Focus from Electric Vehicles to Hybrids

Honda is reevaluating its strategy in the electric vehicle sector following an unsuccessful partnership with General Motors and a slowdown in EV interest in the US market. The joint project with GM, valued at $5 billion and started in 2022, resulted in only two models – the Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue. According to Honda’s CEO, Tochiro Mibe, the collaboration did not lead to a unified profitable strategy in the electric car sector. Now, Honda is focusing on the development of hybrid technologies. The company aims to increase hybrid sales from 800,000 to 2 million units by 2030, improving performance and reducing system costs by 20%. Versions with rear electric motors and all-wheel drive are being developed for larger models like the Pilot and Odyssey.
