Amid reports of China withholding exports of specialty fertilizers to India, domestic companies are now turning to alternative suppliers in Belgium, Egypt, Germany, Morocco, and the United States. The government has informed Parliament about this move to bridge the supply gap caused by China’s restrictions. Minister of State for Fertilizers Anupriya Patel clarified in a written reply that specialty fertilizers are not included in the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) scheme and are unsubsidized, allowing fertilizer companies to import them based on market dynamics. Patel also highlighted efforts by Indian research bodies to promote self-reliance in nutrient management.
