Indonesia’s Gaza Peacekeepers to Focus on Health and Infrastructure Tasks

Indonesia has prepared up to 20,000 troops to undertake health and construction tasks in a planned peacekeeping operation in Gaza, as stated by the defense minister on Friday. The United States, along with countries like Azerbaijan, Egypt, and Qatar, has discussed a multinational stabilisation force for Gaza. A draft from Washington authorizes the force to demilitarize Gaza, protect civilians, and support a new Palestinian police force. Indonesia has not decided on deployment details, showing the uncertainty in establishing an international presence in Gaza. The defense minister mentioned that they are awaiting further decisions regarding Gaza peace efforts. President Prabowo Subianto and Jordan’s King Abdullah will discuss U.S. President Donald Trump’s initiative during the state visit. Indonesia is open to a role in peace efforts, waiting for possibilities. With no diplomatic relation with Israel, Indonesia has condemned the violence in Gaza and sent humanitarian aid. Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that Indonesia needs a U.N. Security Council mandate to participate. Prabowo expressed readiness to deploy troops if a U.N. resolution is in place, advocating for a two-state solution while acknowledging Israel’s safety.
