Iran Rejects Cairo Agreement with IAEA After Reinposition of Sanctions

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on Sunday that the Cairo agreement for cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog is no longer considered valid due to the snapback sanctions imposed by Western countries. The three European countries that triggered the snapback – France, Germany, and the UK – have been accused by Iran of violating their commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal. This move further exacerbates the already strained relations between Iran and the Western nations. The reimposition of sanctions has led to increased tensions in the region as Iran expresses its dissatisfaction with the actions of the Western powers. The Cairo agreement, which aimed to enhance cooperation between Iran and the IAEA, has been rendered ineffective in light of the recent developments. The breakdown of this agreement signals a setback in diplomatic efforts to address Iran’s nuclear program and highlights the challenges of maintaining international cooperation in the face of political conflicts.
