The trio comprising the UK, France, and Germany, known as the E3, triggered a mechanism called ‘snapback’ on Thursday. This mechanism allows the reinstatement of UN sanctions against the Islamic Republic under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal. The move comes after Iran’s continued violations of the agreement by stockpiling enriched uranium beyond the permitted levels. The E3 expressed their concern about Iran’s actions and emphasized the need for dialogue to address the issues and prevent further escalation. If Iran fails to comply within the specified timeframe, the E3 may trigger a process that could lead to the re-imposition of multilateral sanctions.
