Fincantieri has confirmed that the ship still has 15-20 years of operational life and will undergo a refitting to meet Indonesian needs. The negotiations for the sale were formalized during the 2025 Indodefence in Jakarta. The historic aircraft carrier Garibaldi, a symbol of the Italian Navy, has been sold to Indonesia for 450 million euros. The ship will be transformed into a drone platform for the Indonesian Navy.
