Italian Justice keeps Carla Zambelli in custody

Italian Justice decided this Thursday (28) that the licensed federal representative Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) will remain in prison in Rebibbia, Italy. The parliamentarian was trying to respond to the process under house arrest, in an apartment on the outskirts of Rome. The Italian judicial system assessed that there is a ‘high risk of flight’ and determined that the extradition process of the Brazilian, which may still take months, will continue. With the maintenance of the detention, the parliamentarian continues to respond to the extradition process that could bring her back to Brazil. The process is currently in the Ministry of the Interior, equivalent to the Ministry of Justice in Brazil. An auditory on Wednesday morning (27) was held by an Italian judge. Zambelli’s defense and a representative of the Brazilian government, responsible for the extradition request, participated in the hearing. During Wednesday’s hearing (27), Zambelli’s lawyers alleged the parliamentarian’s health fragility and claimed she is the target of a political persecution process.
