Justice acquits all defendants

Rio de Janeiro’s justice system acquitted all defendants in the Ninho do Urubu fire case, where 10 young athletes from Flamengo died in 2019. The decision was made on Tuesday (21) in the 36th Criminal Court of the Capital and was signed by Judge Tiago Fernandes de Barros. The youngsters were sleeping inside a container, a temporary facility, when the fire started. The suspicion is that the fire began after a short circuit in an air conditioner, which was running 24 hours a day at the site. The fire spread due to the container’s material, according to the investigation. At the time of the fire, Ninho do Urubu did not have an operating permit, according to the Rio de Janeiro municipality.
