Indonesian authorities have raised the death toll to 921 on Sunday due to the floods ravaging the northern part of Sumatra island, according to the latest breakdown of figures from the emergency agency. Search and rescue teams are still trying to locate another 392 people who are missing – a decrease of 128 from yesterday’s data – among the mud-covered mountains that are engulfing entire houses in some of the hardest-hit regions. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visited the province of Aceh in northern Sumatra today, one of the most affected by the disaster, announcing several economic aid measures for the affected. ‘Debts are forgiven because this is an extraordinary event,’ the president told a group of farmers in the village of Teupin Mane, as reported by the local channel CNBC. Prabowo urged the authorities to expedite the distribution of humanitarian aid and food.
